8 Benefits of reverse osmosis

What is reverse osmosis and how does it work?

Reverse osmosis is one of the tools to solve water recycling. Is a physical phenomenon of passive diffusion that occurs when there are two solutions in a medium with different concentrations of solutes. This phenomenon occurs spontaneously without the need for energy input.

For example, we take seawater, a solution with a high concentration, apply great pressure, and make it pass through the reverse osmosis membrane. On the other side, we get unsalted water, while on the original site there is the remaining water with the salt that the membrane has prevented from passing.

Which filters are most commonly used?

Sediment filter: retains the particles in suspension so that they do not reach either being consumed or deteriorating the reverse osmosis membrane and the rest of the equipment.

Pressed carbon filter: removes chlorine from water and chemical compounds that can lead to a bad taste or smell.

Granulated carbon filter: continue with the filtration process to achieve possible pure water.

Remineralized filter: removes residual flavor.

Benefits of reverse osmosis

  • Reverse osmosis water filters remove many bacteria and pathogens from tap water.
  • Produces pure, drinkable water of good quality with a neutral taste.
  • It also removes the taste and odors of chlorine; not only being safer but pure water with the best taste.
  • Removes up to 99% of dissolved solids in water, whether organic or inorganic; quality water that benefits health, well-being, and crops.
  • It does not require complicated maintenance due to the simplicity of its technology
  • It can remove microorganisms present in water. Almost all contaminants, dissolved and undissolved, are retained.
  • It saves space as it is a modular process.
  • It is an environmentally friendly system, which does not use or produce or expel any type of chemical product.
  • It is a very easy system of both installation and maintenance being economical. Reverse osmosis filters are changed only when necessary depending on the frequency of their use.
  • Pure and drinkable water at home, the life of appliances and pipes is extended because the extraction of dissolved minerals frees the water of any substance so that it does not corrode the metal parts.

It seems that it is increasingly difficult to have access to sources of drinking water and good quality, so we need to act urgently for our well-being and that of the planet.
